During the lockdown in early 2020 Leeds artist Sandy Holden put a call out in the Cross Gates and Garforth area inviting local creatives to join her in creating a collaborative textile piece.
Over 50 people responded to the call out and individual creative packs were sent out to people’s homes. The brief was very open, use the fabric, threads and beads to create an embroidered piece that had some personal meaning to you.
The response was amazing and within a couple of weeks beautiful pieces started to arrive back through the post. Some of the work was purely abstract whilst other pieces had special and personal meaning and hand stitched messages.
These beautiful, individual pieces were then sewn together to make a wall hanging measuring 1meter across by 2meters long.
Below you can see some of the artwork created. The final hanging will be displayed publicly very soon!
The completed wall hanging will be displayed at venues in Cross Gates and Garforth with plans to take it city wide during 2021.
