Following the success of the Wall Hanging project during 2020, residents in Cross Gates, Garforth and surrounding areas have been busy sewing, crocheting and knitting pieces for the Love Arts Tea and Textiles exhibition at Temple Newsam House. The exhibition will form part of the Tea Festival which Temple Newsam will run from May to December 2021.
A call out was made in January via local social media sites asking for local creatives to get involved in making food items you might expect to have for afternoon tea. The response has been amazing, and the pieces produced are absolutely beautiful. Contributions include: 3 tiered crocheted cakes adorned with felt flowers; knitted sandwiches; scones and cupcakes; and stitched felt cakes and fancies.
There have been regular posts showing a few of these amazing creations on Love Arts Facebook page and we hope to be announcing details about how you can visit the exhibition very soon.
In addition to the afternoon tea textile exhibition, Love Arts will also be running a Paper Tea Cup project. Details of how you can get involved in this project will be announced shortly, so keep an eye open on this website and social media platforms.
Here is a sneak preview of some of the amazing textile creations made for the exhibition.
Temple Newsam House will soon be announcing details of the re-opening and the events planned for 2021 so check out the museumsandgalleries.leeds.gov.uk website for updates.
